How to Apply for a Passport!

Please read this entire blog before applying for a passport. Due to COVID19, it will now take 10-14 weeks to get a passport. If you want it expedited, it will take 4-6 weeks. 

STEP 1:

Schedule an appointment with USPS here.

Scheduling an appointment will require some quick information. Appointments take approximately 15 minutes per person. Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment.

STEP 2:

To prepare for your appointment, you will need to do a few things.

1. Fill out the DS-11 form online here.

2. Gather all required documents and bring them with you to the appointment.

  • Filled out the application (DS-11 Form)

  • $145 (Application fee + Execution (Acceptance) Fee)

    • ***If you are one of The Passport Portal scholarship recipients, please apply at a USPS facility. We will send you two separate money orders totaling $145. Money order one will be for $110 made out to "U.S. Department of State." Money order two will be $35 made out to "Postmaster."

  • Submit a color photo taken in the last six months. More guidelines here.

    • You can go to your local CVS, Walgreens, or UPS facility. These places will follow the proper guideline for taking your passport photo.

  • Citizenship Evidence

    • U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements. Check those requirements here.

  • Photo Identification

    • You must present one physical, primary ID, which includes your photo.

    • Bring the ID and a photocopy of the ID when you apply.

3. Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment! You are late if you are on time. Appointment times could take up to a month, so you would not want to reschedule.
