Opening Doors for Endless Possibilities

TPP Scholarship Recipients 2021

TPP Scholarship Recipients 2021

This year, The Passport Portal awarded its first three recipients. We were delighted to select three exceptional students who are currently enrolled in college and have plans to pursue their education through an undergraduate degree program or certification from an accredited college, university, or technology school.

A group of trained community volunteers reviewed applications, and winners were selected based on their academic achievement, financial need, and other eligibility requirements. After reviewing all of this year’s applications, The Passport Portal Scholarship Committee selected twenty scholarship awards winners:

Zari Jackson

University of the Potomac

Future study abroad destination: Japan

"Having a passport for me is like Charlie having a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. The number of times in my life that I have been asked to fly overseas for work or recreation is awesome! It is only not the best question when the person is ready for me to go and I still need to get a passport which takes up to 6 weeks. I simply believe in operating in faith and my passport would be the first step in moving towards my goals and dreams. Ideally, I would love to study abroad in Japan and India to learn more about tea and the process of creating it."

Zahra Abdullahi

University of Colorado Denver

Future study abroad destination: Jordan

“Studying abroad would give me the opportunity to grow as a person, because I will be surrounding myself in place that I can build my character and build my religion.

Studying in Jordan would provide an opportunity to encourage me to experience amazing food, historic other traditions, and to learn more about Middle Eastern studies. I have only seen the ancient ruins of Petra and Jerash on Google and going to Jordan would allow me to visit these two beautiful places in person. Visiting these ruins is important to me because such exposure would allow me to build a deeper connection with Jordan and by providing me a space allowing me to understand the Jordan culture and customs.

Truly, as a person who has never traveled outside the United States, being able to travel and explore Jordan will be a great eye-opener to cultural nuances and, overall, a fantastic experience."
